It unlocks unlimited rides on JR East trains within a designated area for a set period, streamlining travel and maximizing value for exploring Eastern Japan's diverse landscapes, bustling cities, and hidden treasures. The JR East Pass is primarily divided into 2 types: The Tohuku area and the Nagano & Niigata area. Both passes are valid for 5 days, allowing you to get the most out of your stay in East Japan.

    Cost-effective exploration

Get unlimited rides on JR East trains within the area of your choice and avoid splurging on individual tickets. JR East Pass prices are fixed upfront. Plus, there’s no need to worry about additional costs or hidden charges, which are frequently included with single tickets.

    Multi-stop flexibility

If your itinerary involves visiting multiple places, this is your best option. The more destinations you visit within the JR East Pass area, the more you save as opposed to buying individual tickets for each leg of your journey. Change your plans on the fly? No problem! You can now visit the new destination with the same pass.

    Speed up with the Shinkansen

Who doesn’t love cutting short travel hours to spend more time doing things you love? Certain JR East Passes include unlimited rides on JR East bullet trains (Shinkansen), significantly reducing travel time and associated costs. The JR East Pass offers exceptional value compared to individual Shinkansen ticket prices.

    Perfect for different travel styles

Choose the JR East Pass that best suits your itinerary. If you are a history buff, you can simply lose yourself in Tohoku's rich heritage with the JR East Pass (Tohoku area). For nature lovers, exploring the stunning mountains and natural beauty of Nagano and Niigata becomes easy with the JR East Pass: Nagano & Niigata.

Things to know before booking your JR East Pass

    • JR East passes do not include Shinkansen bullet trains like the Nozomi and Mizuho services.
    • Only holders of non-Japanese passports can purchase the JR East Pass, and to qualify, a traveler must have a "Temporary Visitor" visa.

Booking online was straightforward and comfortable. Exchange at Kansai intl. Airport same - should say I have done this before. I had a great time with the JR West Wide Area Pass. Going to and around in Okayama, Kurashiki, Kobe and plenty of places inside Osaka. Only thing - I almost deleted your email titling »Your experience in Tokyo«. Maybe you should be a bit mire careful about these lines if you want more reviews? :)
